Coleman was born at Blackpool Lancashire. She studied at Arnold School in Blackpool. As headgirl, she earned straight A grades for her A-Levels. Steven Moffat of Doctor Who made it clear at a press event on 21st of March, 2012, that Coleman will take over the role of Karen Gillan after she and Arthur Darvill had left.
